No, Merrick Garland doesn’t tell John Kennedy to ‘wait for revenge’ in this viral Facebook video

If Your Time is short

  • This video shows a May 2021 Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on domestic violent extremism. Attorney General Merrick Garland testified at the hearing, but he didn’t implore Sen. John Kennedy to "wait for revenge."

A recent video shared on Facebook was billed as high-drama viewing featuring a wailing Attorney General Merrick Garland and an intense Sen. John Kennedy, R-La. Former President Donald Trump’s name is also teased.

"(MUST WATCH): ‘WAIT FOR REVENGE,’ Garland cries loud after Kennedy GRILLS him with Trump’s ‘document’ truth,’" the Dec. 13 post says.

None of this happened.

The nearly 11-minute video in the post is a clip from a May 2021 Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on domestic violent extremism.

We reviewed a transcript of the hearing, and Garland never told the committee to "wait for revenge." Kennedy, a committee member, never mentioned Trump.

Rather, Kennedy asked Garland about gun violence in Chicago.
