More Peace Corps?

During the campaign, Barack Obama said he would double the Peace Corps to 16,000 by its 50th anniversary in 2011 and push Congress to fully fund this expansion. The Peace Corps sends volunteers to help developing countries.

Obama's first budget fell short of his promise, so we rated the promise Stalled.

Peace Corps fans aren't giving up hope: Congress is considering a measure to substantially increase funding, and advocates hope Obama will eventually approve it. Read our update to find out where the funding stands.
