The Truth-O-Meter is now in action from coast to coast.
The Oregonian today is launching PolitiFact Oregon, our seventh state site.
Like our other partner sites in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Rhode Island, Ohio, and Wisconsin, PolitiFact Oregon is integrated with our national site and uses our Truth-O-Meter to rate the accuracy of statements by candidates, elected officials and political parties.
The Oregon team will by led by Oregonian Managing Editor Therese Bottomly, Business and Politics Editor Bruce Hammond, and Dee Lane, who oversees the Portland newspaper"s political coverage. Two Oregonian reporters will be dedicated to PolitiFact -- Janie Har and Ryan Kost -- and they"ll be assisted by 10 other journalists at the paper who will be occasional contributors.
The Oregonian has won seven Pulitzer Prizes and has a reputation for great journalism. It is an excellent partner for PolitiFact, a venture of the St. Petersburg Times.
The success of our state sites has shown us that the Truth-O-Meter works as well in state and local politics as at the national level. Our expansion around the country is based on our belief that every candidate and elected official in the nation ought to face the Truth-O-Meter.
