PolitiFact and NBC News are partnering to fact-check the 2016 election.

Beginning today, PolitiFact will fact-check statements made on Meet the Press and rate them on PolitiFact's Truth-O-Meter. PolitiFact editors and reporters also will discuss their work and provide insight and analysis across NBC's platforms -- including on NBC, MSNBC and NBCNews.com.

The partnership, the first-of-its-kind, also allows NBC News to commission exclusive fact-checking reports for on-air and online around key moments on the campaign trail.

Meet the Press host Chuck Todd announced the partnership on his show Sunday.

"By the way, NBC News is announcing today that we’re teaming up with the website PolitiFact to help us fact-check key moments on the campaign trail, have a third party grade some of these things," Todd said, "including interviews that are right here on Meet the Press."

PolitiFact is America's largest fact-checking organization, with more than 11,500 fact-checks published and fact-checking affiliates in 14 states. The website was created in 2007 as a division of the Tampa Bay Times, a newspaper in St. Petersburg. PolitiFact won the Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the 2008 presidential election.

"With political passions high and candidates battling to be heard, sometimes facts get trampled," said Neil Brown, Tampa Bay Times editor and vice president. "A PolitiFact-NBC partnership will yield consumer-minded journalism that will give voters a better shot at coming to their own judgments."

This is the second major TV partnership for PolitiFact. The fact-checking website recently announced a collaboration with E.W. Scripps Company to broadcast PolitiFact fact-checks in Scripps' 24 local television markets.

The Times will continue to operate PolitiFact’s companion site, PunditFact, which fact-check’s pundits on TV, radio, online and in print.

"We can’t wait to see PolitiFact’s Truth-O-Meter splashed across NBC, MSNBC and NBCNews.com," said PolitiFact executive director Aaron Sharockman. "It’s a fabulous opportunity to grow our brand and reach new readers ahead of the 2016 election. More importantly, we hope our work will help serve voters when they head to the polls next November."
