On the first night of the Republican National Convention, Melania Trump, the wife of Donald Trump, gave a well-received speech in which she talked about her upbringing in Slovenia and her respect for her husband.

Soon after the speech, however, some pointed out a striking similarity between her speech and that of a speech from Michelle Obama.

We can’t say why the similarity occurred, and we’ll leave it to readers to decide if they would define it as plagiarism.

The Trump campaign released the following statement, attributed to senior communications adviser Jason Miller.

"In writing her beautiful speech, Melania's team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success."
