After a bitter fight between old friends, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell knocked U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman out of Congress with an overwhelming victory in Tuesday's primary for the Democratic nomination in New Jersey's 9th Congressional District.

Pascrell received 61 percent of the vote with 30,227 ballots cast in his favor, while Rothman was left with 19,118 votes, or 39 percent, according to unofficial election results.

Pascrell will now face Republican Shmuley Boteach in the general election on Nov. 6. Boteach received 58 percent of the vote in the GOP primary over two opponents. The district covers parts of Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties.

Over the course of the Pascrell-Rothman battle, PolitiFact New Jersey fact-checked six campaign-related claims.
