President Barack Obama defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney after taking several battleground states, including Virginia and Ohio.

New Jersey's U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, won a second term after soundly defeating Republican challenger, state Sen. Joe Kyrillos.
Menendez received 58 percent of the vote and Kyrillos walked away with 40 percent, according to unofficial results.

Also on the ballot Tuesday were 12 House races in New Jersey, including a few incumbents who have previously faced the Truth-O-Meter.
In the 7th Congressional District race, Rep. Leonard Lance, a Republican, defeated Democrat Upendra Chivukula, 58 percent to 40 percent, according to unofficial results.
