Flawed claims connected to Texas can pop up almost anywhere.
For instance, our No. 10 most-read story of 2014 was a debunking of a Facebook post saying an Austin judge had sentenced a man to death upon his third conviction for possessing a small amount of marijuana.
Again, this wasn't correct:
After we spotted this claim, we deemed it too silly to run through the Truth-O-Meter. But we did talk to two Texas attorneys; each one said such a sentence isn’t possible under state law.
