In about 20 days, Rick Perry declares for president in a Dallas appearance, the Dallas Morning News advises, though Lucy Nashed, Perry's spokeswoman, told us only that Perry is announcing whether he's running on June 4.
Should the former Texas governor say he's in, he'll join Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz as a Republican hopeful in the growing field. Need another Texan in the mix? Remember declared aspirant Carly Fiorina was born in Austin. Also, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, already stumping, grew up in Texas.
Most recently, we've run statements by Perry through the Flip-O-Meter. He got a Full Flop for reversing course on his previous support for continuing the Export-Import Bank. He landed a Half Flip for not telling a reporter if he hopes the 2015 Legislature should leave intact the provision authorizing in-state tuition for certain immigrants that he signed into law in 2001 and otherwise stoutly defended.
