And just like that, it’s October. Under a month until Election Day, and PolitiFact is absolutely swimming in fact-checking work. It’s a true tidal wave: Politicians during debates and events; pundits on TV, radio and Twitter; everyone else on social media. But we’ve got experience with this. At PolitiFact, we’ve been fact-checking claims made by politicians since 2007. Year in and year out, one fact remains at the heart of our work: Democracy relies on an informed electorate.
That’s why PolitiFact provides you with in-depth coverage of every aspect of political campaigns, from the national level all the way down to the local level, each election. This year, in addition to fact-checking candidates’ claims, we’ve doubled down vetting political advertisements. We are also publishing a ‘Voting Counts’ series to show you how to make your ballot count. Our goal is to give you the confidence that when you cast your ballot, you have the information and context you need to make informed decisions.
During this important election year, we’re especially mindful of the role of independent, nonpartisan journalism like ours. You may not know this, but as a nonprofit fact-checking newsroom, we depend on readers to do this type of reporting.
Will you support us today?
Yes, I’ll become a PolitiFact donor today!
