No, this isn’t a video of Chuck Grassley telling Joe Biden to resign

If Your Time is short

  • Sen. Chuck Grassley doesn’t call on President Joe Biden to resign in a video shared on social media, as a Facebook post suggests. He criticized the FBI.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, handily won re-election in the midterms but recent social media posts suggesting that a video shows him demanding that President Joe Biden resign don’t stand up to scrutiny.

"‘IT IS FRAUD’ Grassley DEMANDS Biden’s ‘resignation’ with ‘Hunter 2020 CHEAT’ evidence," said the description of a video posted Dec. 7 on Facebook.

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook.)

The nearly 10-minute video shows Grassley delivering a prepared opening statement during an Aug. 4 U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

The meeting was about FBI oversight. Grassley in the video doesn’t call for Biden’s resignation, he alluded to Biden only when he said the "Biden Justice Department."

Grassley discussed the president’s son, Hunter Biden, but not in connection to the 2020 presidential election, as this post suggested. Grassley was criticizing the FBI for not investigating "potential criminal activity."

Grassley also never said "it is fraud," in the video.

We rate claims that this video shows the senator calling on the president to resign False.
