Photos show Jeff Bezos, not his clone

If Your Time is short

  • This claim is unfounded.

Did Amazon founder Jeff Bezos fly into space last year, or was it his clone?

A recent Instagram post suggests a Bezos body double is out there, sharing two images of Bezos and a call to action — the caption said, "Research…." and hashtags #jeffbezos #clones and #cloneseverywhere accompanied it.

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

The post also includes the serial numbers for two patents related to coronaviruses, but neither provides evidence for the claim that Bezos has a clone. He doesn’t, and Bezos appears in both of the photos included in the post.

We did reverse image searches for both photos.

The first, which appears flipped in the post, shows Bezos in September 2018 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., for the memorial service of the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

The second appears to be a still image from one of multiple recorded interviews Bezos gave reporters three years after his rocket company’s first space flight

We rate claims that these photos show a Bezos clone and not Bezos Pants on Fire!
