U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., have not shied from criticizing President Donald Trump since he returned to office Jan. 20.
Raskin has wondered if Trump pardoned roughly 1,500 people convicted of storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to release "a reserve army of political foot soldiers to act on behalf of MAGA and Donald Trump."
But claims the two Democrats filed articles of impeachment against Trump are inaccurate.
Nevertheless, some social media users are spreading that rumor.
"AOC and Jaime Raskin have filed articles of impeachment against President Trump for pardoning the J6 prisoners," a Jan. 24 Threads post said, misspelling Raskin’s first name. "Maybe Articles of Impeachment should be filed against them as well!
This post, which included an image of Ocasio-Cortez and Raskin, was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)
Ocasio-Cortez didn’t immediately respond to PolitiFact’s questions about the claim, but a Raskin spokesperson said it is "completely false."
We further found no evidence that the post is accurate.
Raskin was the lead House impeachment manager in Trump’s second impeachment trial in 2021, when nine House Democrats argued that Trump incited the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Searching for articles of impeachment against Trump filed by Ocasio-Cortez and Raskin in the current Congress, we found none. Neither representative’s office has announced such a filing.
We found no credible news coverage reporting on the representatives filing articles of impeachment against Trump because of his Jan. 6 pardons.
The image of Ocasio-Cortez and Raskin in the post is old. It’s from a June 2024 roundtable discussion on Supreme Court ethics conducted by Democrats of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
The claim itself appears to have originated on a parody X account.
We rate claims Ocasio-Cortez and Raskin filed articles of impeachment against Trump in connection with his Jan. 6 pardon False.
