Gaetz resigned from Congress on Nov. 13, 2024, just before President-elect Donald Trump nominated him for U.S. attorney general. Gaetz wihtdrew from consideration for attorney general Nov. 22, 2024, amid allegations of sexual misconduct and said he wouldn't rejoin Comgress. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives serving District 4 in 2010. His father is former Florida state Sen. Don Gaetz.
